Butcher paper is an essential for this mommy. Why? Because butcher paper has a thousand and one uses. When we do a project like painting or dyeing Easter eggs, I put butcher paper on the table as a protective barrier. It works great at keeping the mess clean up to a minimum. A couple of years ago we used butcher paper as Christmas gift-wrap. I had the kids use cookie cutters as stamps. The kids stamped all over the paper in red and green shapes like trees, stars, bells, and other Christmas shapes. The kids had so much fun and they were so excited to use their wrapping paper for the presents they were giving. I have put two rows of butcher paper on top of each other on the wall to use like bulletin board paper and the kids filled it up with bulletin board projects. The kids love being able to show off their handy work like that. On Friday, the kids each got a large piece of the butcher paper and a bunch of tempera paint and I told them to have fun. They all painted whatever their little hearts desired. Their masterpieces are going on their bedroom walls for all to see.
If you do not have a roll of butcher paper, I highly recommend you get some. You can also make really, large paper airplanes with it. I have not tried it but I think that will be our next fun project. To see if ginormous paper airplanes can fly.
